9 Inventions You Probably Didn’t Know Were Made By Indians

1. Zero

A long time ago in India, in  the year 458 AD, a smart person named Aryabhata made a symbol for zero. This symbol helped people in  math to add & subtract easier.

2. Shampoo

Shampoo comes from an Indian word "campo" (चाँपो). A very long time ago, around 1762, people in India used it as a special oil for head massages.

3. Buttons

Buttons were first used a really long time ago, about 5000 years ago, in a place called Mohenjo-daro. People used them to decorate their clothes, not to hold them together.

4. Chess

Chess is a strategy board game. It started in India around 6th century AD from another game called Chaturanga.

5. Cataract Surgery

A long time ago, in India, a doctor named Sushruta knew how to do cataract surgery. This knowledge even traveled to China, and people from Greece came to India to learn about it.

6. Plastic Surgery

Indians were one of the first to do plastic surgery, starting way back in 2000 BCE, which was a very long time ago.

7. Diamond

India used to be the only place where people found diamonds until they found some in Brazil in the 18th century. This was almost 5000 years ago!

8. Cotton

While ancient Greeks wore animal skins, Indians were growing cotton around 5,000 years ago in the Indus Valley. Cotton became really popular all over the world.

9. Wireless  Communication

Jagadish Chandra Bose in India did a cool demonstration with wireless communication back in 1895.
